Lee Ver Schure
Lee Ver Schure owner
Lee began his horticultural career ‘adventure’ in 1982 when he and Kay opened their garden center and specialty nursery in the “old ball field” adjoining their home, the historic 150-year-old Westview School House.

Over the years Lee has served on several green industry boards and committees. He is past president of the West Michigan Nursery and Landscape Association and is a long time member of the Horticultural Advisory Committee at Frederik Meijer Gardens and Sculpture Park in Grand Rapids, MI. He also serves on the Landscaping Committee for the Saugatuck Douglas History Center “Old Douglas Schoolhouse Project”. Westview Farms LLC is actively involved in the design, development, installation and maintenance of that project's popular public “Back In Time” gardens.

Outside of his chosen vocational box, Lee is a published playwright and sings and plays guitar with his roots-rock group The Last Call Band.

Kay Ver Schure
Kay Ver Schure owner
In 1982 Kay hung up her art teacher togs and donned her garden clogs. Then she turned to more learning: reading and researching about herbs and perennial flowering plants – their common and botanic names, cultural requirements, how to produce great plants to sell locally. She now enjoys her short commute on foot to the nursery adjacent to their schoolhouse home where she is in charge of the daily workings of plant production and care.
But her teaching career has never stopped. By applying art esthetics and principles and acquired horticultural knowledge to their business, Kay and Lee teach clients their love of beautiful design through the use of Westview’s hardy healthy plants in gardens and landscapes.

Worker Worms
Worker Worms castings crew
Meet the Fantastic Soil Amenders! Kay’s Castings Crew. The wiggly workers in her vermiculture “nursery” are happily toiling to turn our kitchen scraps into a valuable soil resource. They shred the organic matter, aerate and aggregate the soil particles, increase microbial populations AND their castings aid plant root growth! To paraphrase Charles Darwin “Every particle of soil has been through a worm at least once!” Good work, worms!
